Born here in the purple mountains majesty
Freedom far as the eye could see
Mom and me, we were a family
She made a home for me
And she’d always say,
“Ain’t life grand?”
Just a babe on that mountain
I’d try to chase that ball a rollin’
She’d take me by the hand
Helped me learn to stand
And she’d smile and say,
“Ain’t life grand?“
Times got hard and food was spare
But Mom’d just smile at me with so much care
She’d make food from nothing, love was there
And she’d say, “Ain’t life grand?”
“This is how you stand.”
When I was still a young man
News of war was on every news stand
Everyone was called to serve.
Mom just smiled at me and said,
“Our country needs to stand.”
She went off to serve her country
She saw a way to serve more than just me.
Said, “Don’t know when I’ll be back,
We’ll have to see.”
Our country has to make a stand.
Life’s too grand.”
She left the mountains majesty
Carried my heart with her overseas
She left her legs there when she returned
Brought me back a Purple Heart
She just smiled and said,
“Ain’t life grand? We made a stand.”
And as I watch her roll across this land
She smiles at me and says,
“Ain’t life grand?”
She taught me how to stand.
From a mother to her son.
From a soldier to a man.
She taught me how to stand.
As I watch her roll across this land
She smiles at me and says,
“Ain’t life grand?”
She taught me how to stand.
From a mother to her son.
From a soldier to a man.
She taught me how to stand.
She taught me how to stand.
Note to Reader: This was my first and, so far, only attempt at writing song lyrics. I have it in a file, and now here, for possible musical accompaniment at a later date. For now, it's a poem, and I hope you enjoy it.
